Date Of Birth: March 24, 1949
Date Of Death: September 5, 2008
Dennis L. Hughes was born in Portland, Oregon in 1949 to Harry E. and Loretta H. Hughes. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army, serving honorably in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam Era as a paratrooper. He married June Mayfield, and their family grew to include son Michael Todd Mayfield (wife Pam), daughter Abby Causey (husband Marion), and two grandchildren- Ty Michael Mayfield and Cadence Causey. He is also survived by his sister Sharon Pagels, niece Kim Kellogg, and nephews Kyle Kellogg, Keith Baker. Dennis was a Master Carpenter, and his craftsmanship is all around the Indianapolis and Kokomo area, in businesses and in the homes of friends and family. He most recently worked on the Lucas Oil Stadium.Dennis was a fighter, enduring almost two years of hospital stays. In spite of his cancer, his will to keep going was evident throughout his later days on this earth. He passed away peacefully with the love of his life, “Miss June” at his side, never leaving him throughout those difficult times. Dennis is now free from the body that we knew and has graduated on to an existence that we will understand once the Lord has called us home to be reunited again. The love that he has shared with those lives he touched is something that nothing- not even death- can take away. Think of him and smile, knowing that he is in good company with THE Master Carpenter in a world filled with love and goodness eternal.

Hughes family,
Just wanted to let you know how much I have been thinking and praying for you during this difficult time. Dennis was definitely a fighter throughout. I will remember his smile and warmth and so glad I had the privilege of being a part of those who cared for him.
Love,
Emilee

Dear Miss June,
I have worked with Dennis on many jobs and he always made the job so much fun. I will always remember him as the happy man I knew. He also was a good cook on those Hayes Brothers camping week-ends. He was a good friend who was always there if you had a truck problem. May he rest in peace. For you Miss June, our prayer is that the Holy Spirit Comforter will sustain you and lift you up. Dennis was so blessed to have a wife who stood by him through all his suffering.
